What's on the Easel Today

A Towering Cathedral, sketch on paper, 10" x 3.5".

This is the prep sketch for the canvas I'm working on, which is 30" x 10" and will go in the Red Gala auction for Maple Grove Art Center on Friday, Feb. 5th.

Tucker the Kinda-Grumpy Golden

7" x 5" pastel on paper.

I was really worried about this one. My source photo was shadowy and blurry, and when I sharpened up the shapes in it, I got this vaguely grouchy expression no matter how hard I tried not to.

Never having met a Golden who had that characteristic, I was very concerned. Could that possibly be right?

Much to my relief, the client happily informed me that yes, I'd caught Tucker's characteristic, catlike "And I should do that, why?" attitude. I wish I could've met the old fellow. I'd probably have loved him.

Portrait of Rio

10" x 8" oil on canvas, from a photo I took (in the snow a couple weeks ago; I changed the background).

I am offering this size and style of portrait at only $100, for orders placed by Feb. 28, 2010. After that, the price will increase to $125.

A Week at Chez Greyhound

I am posting from my friend's place, where I get to tend Indiana and Biscuit until Sunday evening when her humans return. Not only do I earn a little money for the dog-sitting, but I get to draw the dogs! So it's all good.

Portrait of Lola

Lola. 10" x 8" oil on canvas, from an old snapshot.

The original photo was taken indoors with a flash -- not good source material for art, but all we had, since Lola is sadly no longer with us. I put her outside in the sunlight and tall grass instead.

Sweet Diamond

Diamond the Pomeranian, 8" x 6" pastel on paper.
